Merrick Palmer

In 2007,  Merrick founded Merrick Palmer Basketball School because of a demand from parents of his son's grade three house league team. The parent's were drawn in by the passion for improving their children's technical skills and keeping a positive attitude. In three years, MPBS grew from 7 to 200 kids making it difficult to secure permits from the school board. The need for a more permanent space was born... Understanding that technical development is the key to proficiency, having a space where clients can hone their skills every day would be a utopia. Capital Courts Training Centre opened its doors in 2011 creating a new approach to skill development in the region. Merrick  serves as the Technical Director for the Gloucester Cumberland Basketball Association and the Director of Capital Courts Academy. He was a standout at St. Francis Xavier University and former professional player in the Premier League in South Africa. He won national championships in university and overseas in 1993 and 1997 respectively and has since dedicated his life to changing the culture of basketball in Canada. With the success of Capital Courts Training Centre, he hopes to enrich the lives of others through basketball and various community initiatives.
